What Results To Expect
The first thing we like to let you know about is that everyone’s results are different. Unfortunately we cannot predict how much brighter or whiter your teeth will change to after teeth whitening.
At iDental Surgery, we only use the best whitening products both in-chair and as take home options.
Before Your Teeth Whitening Visit
We recommend a full examination, checkup and clean at least a few days before your whitening visit, especially if it has been a while since you last visited the dentist.
If you regularly attend for your checkup and cleans, you could even have your in-chair whitening on the same day as your checkup & clean. Your treating dentist will determine your suitability for same-day whitening.
Why?
Our dentists care for your health and want to ensure that your mouth is healthy prior to any whitening. All tooth decay, sensitivity issues, pain, stains, and overall health of your mouth will be determined prior to in-chair or take-home whitening.
Stain and plaque removal is also super important as removal of that alone can brighten your teeth instantly.
You may also be unsuitable for tooth-whitening due to being pregnant, breastfeeding, or just having very sensitive or worn teeth.
After Your Teeth Whitening Visit
What to AVOID while doing take-home and for at least a week after any whitening
Avoid consuming food that can stain your teeth after you have whitened your teeth that night e.g. red wine, curries, black tea and black coffee.
Rule of thumb: “If it stains a white shirt, it will stain your teeth”.
Sensitivity
It is normal for many people to experience some sensitivity at the time of and throughout the whitening process.
The sensation has been described as a quick sharp, shooting pain at random intervals or the sensation of biting down onto ice cubes. You may feel a cold sensation on your teeth when breathing through your mouth.
This is not a permanent effect. In most cases, sensitivity will fade over a 5 day period.
Treating Sensitivity
You have been recommended GC Tooth Mousse Plus. Apply a pea size amount to your index finger and spread over surface of teeth and sensitive areas. Do not rinse. Do not eat or drink for 30min after application.
For extreme sensitivity, switch to using a sensitive toothpaste for the duration of your whitening treatment.
If you suffer from sensitive teeth, you may need to switch to a sensitive toothpaste and start using your Tooth Mousse for a couple of weeks before you start ZOOM! Whitening.
Maintaining White Teeth
For best results, regularly visit iDental surgery for exams and cleans.
Also, touch up every two to six months for two to three nights, to help maintain the colour of your teeth and help minimise staining.
