There are many situations where x-rays are necessary for correct diagnosis and treatment. Reasons for x-rays include monitoring at check-up, toothache, decay, periodontal (gum) disease, root canal treatment, wisdom teeth, extractions and accidents.
As a new client to iDental Surgery you may be required to have digital x-rays taken by your treating dentist. Please inform your dentist if you are or may be pregnant at the time.
An OPG (Orthopantomogram) is a panoramic x-ray of the mouth. It shows information about the jaws, mouth, teeth, sinuses and facial bones.
Digital OPG’s are very quick to take and results are seen almost immediately on the screen.
You will be required to remove all jewellery from your head and neck region immediately before the OPG is taken (e.g. Earrings, tongue/lip rings, necklaces, hair clips & pins).
Regular intraoral radiographs are very common in dentistry as they are an invaluable monitoring and diagnostic tool. They are usually taken at your regular check-up appointment and to help diagnose dental decay, gum disease, bone loss, tooth infection, wisdom teeth and other changes that are not clinically visible.
Intraoral and extraoral photographs are very important tools. They allow the treating dentist to discuss with you their findings and proposed treatment. Pictures also allow you to see exactly what is in your mouth so that you can better understand your treatment needs. Images are projected onto screens.
Images are especially important in cosmetic dentistry.
